When the UK Garage scene was at it’s peak, a number of artists emerged and spawned a new era of dance music merged with urban cultures. Most noticeably, and widely recognized as the pioneers of UK Garage were the famous So Solid Crew.
The UK Garage scene became the most prominent underground scene in UK music history, turning unknown musicians into successful artists. Pirate radio revelled in thousands of new listeners and we all know what followed. DJ EZ with Pure Garage, Roll Deep, Dizzee Rascal and now we have massive UK success with the new kids on the block Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk and Tinie Tempah.
In the background of all of this was J Fresh. Formally based in London, Fresh was a regular on the UK Garage circuit and was consistently booked for all the biggest urban events, such as: Twice As Nice, Garage Nation, Garage Fever, and La Cosa Nostra.
Over the years, as UK Garage evolved into Grime, Bassline and Funky House and as a lot of the musicians the Garage scene created, dropped off; J Fresh flourished.
Fresh adapted his skills with both turntables and CD Decks, reinvented his game and emerged on the South Coast, predominantly Bournemouth to cut, chop, mix and scratch the funk out of all things urban.
Locking himself into the weekly Urban Fire syndicated radio show that is broadcast across 25 stations globally, Fresh has networked his way into interviewing and collaborating with some of the biggest names in World Music.
No stone has been left unturned, as Fresh has gone in search of fracturing both commercial and underground club nights, so that urban disco discordance rules the roost. His sets, as you’d expect, are extremely exciting and his track selection will amplify any event into an atmospheric room of head bobbing and booty shaking.
And nowhere is this better exemplified than at his weekly residences all over the UK. Like all great DJ’s, Fresh is tarred with the otherworldly cosmic ability to ensure heads are spinning and dance-floors are swaying in a robotic fashion till the nights end.
Fresh DJ’s for a wealth of UK artists including, BRIT and MOBO award winners So solid Crew, and is the first choice for any urban event held from Brighton to Bournemouth.
His mix-tape series gain critical acclaim from fans and industry members alike as he continues to break and support new music whilst working closely with the key players in the UK and US music scenes.
